LEED Canada
LEED Canada: Certification and Incentives.
An adaptation of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, LEED Canada for New Construction and Major Renovations version 1.0 takes into account our unique climate and the building needs that arise from it.
LEED Canada prerequisites and credits consist of five environmental categories:
- Sustainable Sites
- Water Efficiency
- Energy and Atmosphere
- Materials and Resources
- Indoor Environmental Quality
Innovation & Design Process, not included in the main categories, is an additional category intended to address sustainable building expertise and design measures not fully covered under the environmental categories.
Why certify?
In addition to creating healthier buildings with a smaller carbon footprint, achieving greater sustainability through the LEED Canada standards can:
- Help create a green building knowledge base
- Establish leadership in the green building sector
- Offset costs through a growing number of provincial, federal and local government incentives
- Help you earn LEED certification plaque and certificate
